Digital asset licensing: identify every component
Inventory images, fonts, templates, code and recordings included in the product. A bundle can contain material under different terms. Keep the source, creator and exact license version. Free download access does not establish permission to resell. Do not claim complete ownership of third-party assets merely because you modified their colors or placed them inside a new package.
Read commercial-use conditions
Creative Commons describes licenses that allow commercial use and others with a NonCommercial restriction. It also distinguishes attribution, ShareAlike and NoDerivatives conditions. Read the actual license for the asset and intended use. Do not transfer a permission from one image to a different file by the same creator, or assume a search-engine usage filter replaces verification.

Separate modification and redistribution
Permission to use an asset in a finished design may differ from permission to redistribute its editable source. Code licenses also have their own conditions; the MIT notice requirement is one example, not a rule for photographs or fonts. Review the intended product format. Seek qualified legal advice when compatibility, ownership or sublicensing is unclear.
Keep attribution and evidence
Provide required credit and notices in a form appropriate to the deliverable. Retain records of permissions and any written approval. Consider separate trademark, privacy and publicity rights where relevant. Do not remove attribution to make the product look entirely original. A customer should understand the rights they receive and any restrictions they must continue to respect.
Describe the buyer’s license clearly
State permitted use, modification and redistribution without granting rights you do not own. Avoid unsupported claims of universal exclusivity for AI-generated or third-party material. Review terms when assets or providers change. This guide is a checklist, not legal advice. Responsible licensing protects the product’s usefulness and trust before a dispute forces an expensive reconstruction.
